Societal treatment of Frizz Desprela (Characters)
Frizz is an anomaly within the Land of Light. Frizz doesn’t match any of the preestablished looks of other inhabitants nor does he have any known origins. Due to this Frizz is generally distrusted within the society. Many who get to know Frizz will lose this distrust and, at the very least, have a neutral relationship. However, there are few who get to know him due to his timid nature and the social stigma of interacting with him.
Those who distrust or negatively view Frizz justify their views by seeing it as a security issue. The Land of Light has been invaded by creatures of Eclipse for most their history. As time progressed new and more dangerous creatures appeared. The skeptics believe that Frizz could possibly be a new type of creature of Eclipse. The skeptic would site several facts to lay truth to the claim. The first fact cited is that Frizz was first found unconscious near the corrupted land. The second fact is that a rogue devourer, a type of creature of Eclipse, didn’t harm Frizz when near him which is unprecedented. The third fact is that there are only six species of inhabitants and this rule has been true throughout history. Frizz is the only exception to this rule and therefore there should be some form of skepticism about his origin. Finally, Frizz has disobeyed societal norms such as never killing a Llumi intentionally or never enter the abandoned tower within the hilly division. These facts lay the foundation for people being skeptical and critical of Frizz. Many people hold a skeptical view of Frizz.
The few defendants of Frizz do not dispute the facts laid out by the skeptics. Instead, they focus on how Frizz’s positive actions far outweigh his questionable origins and negative decisions. The most cited fact for the defendants is that Frizz has repeatedly been willing to go out of his way to help others if requested. The defendants claim that Frizz wouldn’t go out of his way to help others if he was a creature of Eclipse. Another fact claimed is that Frizz has killed creatures of Eclipse while under the care of Vernanda, the head of the defense against the Eclipse. The few defendants of Frizz hold key political powers and this is why Frizz is able to eventually become an inhabitant of light despite widespread opposition.
Because of the skeptics Frizz is disregarded and looked down upon by most inhabitants. This has led to Frizz having very few friends he can connect to without be discriminated. Ultimately Frizz is an anomaly of the society. Frizz lets harsh words get to his head and strives for a unobtainable perfection in order to look trustworthy. This perfectionism is one of the core flaws of Frizz and fuels much of his inner conflict.
When Frizz begins wielding the powers of Desmos he becomes even more polarizing. Frizz begins to win people to have either positive or neutral views on himself. But, his staunchest skeptics become even more convinced he is a threat to their very way of life. This divide only continues to grow deeper until there is one final split. This marks the beginning of the civil war of the inhabitants.
With this post I wanted to give some more background of Frizz and his societal relationship with the inhabitants of light. The story of WOI revolves around Frizz and the party’s journey to find purpose in their lives. Frizz’s journey to this goal is heavily centered around this external conflict between him and society which furthermore fuels his inner conflicts. If I wasn’t descriptive enough please let me know and I’ll try to answer any questions. As always please leave any critique/nitpicks you can find. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this.
